Early Treatment
You may have noticed that Dr. Moldez's practice includes "Orthodontics and Early Treatment or Interceptive Orthodontics." While most people have heard of orthodontics, many are confused by the "interceptive" part of the title. Essentially, while orthodontics entails the management of tooth movement, interceptive orthodontics involves the guidance of facial growth and development, which occurs during childhood. In both cases, appliances are frequently used. Either braces (the more familiar type of orthodontic appliance) or other specialized appliances like headgear and expanders are recommended, depending on the facial abnormalities present. Usually interceptive orthodontic treatment will precede conventional braces, so your child may have braces and headgear, or braces and an expansion appliance or some other combination of treatment methods.
Sometimes interceptive procedures will reduce the severity of the problem. Occasionally, interceptive procedures, if done at the right time, will be the only treatment necessary.
Because Dr. Lamont and Dr. Moldez are skilled and experienced in both areas, they is able to diagnose misalignments in the teeth and jaws, and can devise a treatment plan that integrates both traditional orthodontic and interceptive orthodontic treatments if required.
